“What are the Dinosaurs of Detroit thinking?”

USA Today published a nasty, ironic, funny short article with this title on July 25th of this year, by Alan Webber, founding editor of Fast Company magazine. He challenges the reader to imagine how to defend recent behaviors of big three automakers. A real impossible mission.

  1. One thing the dinosaurs might be thinking is that we’ve got a signficant number of people that make their living from working in and around these companies and if some dramatic changes are undertaken the risk incurred may be too great.

  2. Now Chrysler brings in six-sigma meister, slash-and-burn artist extraordinaire Bob Nardelli to run things. Once he’s left, they’ll spin off the trucks (Hemi), racing parts (Mopar) and SUVs (Jeep) as separate businesses and abandon passenger cars. They have no shot at developing a product portfolio that will meet the emerging transit market.
